Overview

The Writers Lab (TWL) is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the work and visibility of women screenwriters over 40. Supported by major industry partners, TWL provides mentorship, development opportunities, and community support for writers whose voices are often underrepresented in film and television.

Good Code Studio worked with TWL to modernize their website, improve usability, and create a flexible platform that their team can manage internally while still providing a polished, professional experience for program applicants, mentors, donors, and the broader film community.

Design & Build

The site redesign focused on clarity, storytelling, and accessibility — aligning with the organization’s mission to uplift women’s voices. We refreshed the visual layout with cleaner typography, an updated color palette, and improved content organization to guide visitors through TWL’s programs, labs, news, and alumni achievements.

Our development work emphasized structure and maintainability. We rebuilt key sections using custom, lightweight WordPress components that give the TWL team full control over content without relying on bulky page builders. Flexible blocks allow them to easily showcase announcements, event updates, and yearly cohorts.

The new design balances a creative, artistic tone with the professionalism expected from an established industry nonprofit.
